Social Design Approach
Pieter Brenner developed a new design concept: "Design is not only chairs any more, it is about process, even the process of healing." The term "Social Design" describes all design processes that have a social impact.
„We started with the question of how much it costs a company with a burnout-employee and what we found is that a sick day costs up to 2,000 Euros for companies. Secondly, how could we limit the economic losses of psychological burden that is calculated to 6.3 billion Euros in Germany. “ * Experts suggest there are 9 million people in Germany dealing with burnout, that is 20% of the work force.
If you take the average time of up to a year of rehabilitation, we saved up to 2 million for the companies.
“We as designers can rid the world from its problems, because now we have the right methodology. If the problem is „sickness“ we can solve it with design(ed) methodology to „health” says Pieter Brenner.

SCientific Basis of The Project
Dr. Sneider MD, is a US-based doctor that has worked many years in R&D for pharmaceutical companies. He was the leading director for many studies in the field of psychological treatment and serves our expert function in the design process.
How were you involved with this project?
I was involved from the very beginning. After Pieter came up with the idea and we had the first meetings with the participants, I knew I wanted to be part of this revolutionary project which would impact peoples lives. I think we can change the world with the methods of design. Imagine a world without the adiposity, the unesthetic and the sick...
Were you surprised by the results?
Yes and no. We know of the close proximity between sickness and creativity not just since Gugging, and I think destroying advertising columns is a very artistic process that releases hidden energies. We were surprised that we could send four of our five patients back to their original work places because their incoming condition was quite severe across the board. We have just lost one patient to a self-created future, because he was able to experience destruction of his own work. We will adjust next time.
How was your relationship with the patients?
Very good. I had the feeling that we really changed their mind by setting up straight rules how the should work and structured their days here.
Will there be another workshop?
I would work with Brenner again, anytime. He is like a magician. He mentioned to me that there might be another workshop, but he also said that he intends to engage in future projects that impact people and wants to continue to do things that have never been done before. We will see, I hope we get people who will contact us to be a part of the next big project.
